They're reading me out of house and home!

My older girls have been reading so much lately that I am having trouble getting enough books from the library to keep them stocked with reading material.

Sierra has been obsessed with the Companions Quartet series. Kali has been working her way through the Magic Tree House series and is up to book #32.

Help! I need suggestions of books for 9 - 12 year old girls. They like books with magic, mythical creatures, princesses, etc. and most important an element of excitement or suspense.

Hmmm...a difficult one for me to give suggestions on since I've just got one boy. We like books by Neil Gaiman, but they are quite a bit darker. I'm going to be in a few bookshops today, so I'll keep an eye out for anything that looks good and let you know.

The Hunger games & catching fire by Suzanne Collins. Lots of suspense! You have a very cute blog. :)

I've had a look. A few of the books I saw aren't available in the US, a few of them, after having a look at them on Amazon weren't so great. This series seems nice, though: http://www.amazon.com/Chronicles-Chrestomanci-Charmed-Lives-Christopher/dp/006447268X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1271828100&sr=1-1

I can't vouch for it since we haven't read it, but it looks interesting.

Fablehaven!! LOVE this one. Hunger Games series is great too. Also, the Alcatraz series by Brandon Sanderson. 39 Clues is fun, esp if you get the cards and do the online games. Septimus Heap is super too. The Witch's Boy, Savvy, the new Peter Pan series by Dave Barry, Artemis Fowl, Neal Shusterman books, Charlie Bone books, Allie Finker's Rules for Girls (Adia loves this one, not fantasy though), the Sister's Club (not fantasy), anything Louis Sacar (particularly Holes & the Wayside School books), Magic Kitten/Magic Dog books, Pretties series by Scott Westerfeld (a little more advanced), Ivy & Bean books, Keys of the Kingdom books by Garth Nix, Beauty by Robin McKinley is also probably a little advanced but close, Shannon Hale books, A Long Way from Chicago/A Year Down Yonder (not fantasy but SO funny), the Maze Runner (yet another Mormon author, though this one could be a little intense for under 11), Changeling & it's sequel (Delia Sherman), Jessica Day George books (another Mormon author), Zel (Donna Jo Napoli, I like some of her stuff and not others), A Curse As Dark As Gold (Bunce), Wildwood Dancing & sequels (Marillier), Dark is Rising series (Cooper)... Okay, I better stop now. You're on Goodreads, right? If so, you can sort my books by rating and look at the ones that are in that age range. One day I'll actually catalogue them...

Thanks all (except Marquesas. We're not quite ready for Twilight:P)

Maren, you are a gold mine. Now If I could just get my girls to read books with boy main characters...

I can sometimes get them into books with a girl sidekick like in the Percy Jackson books or books that have both a boy and girl like Fablehaven and 39 clues, but even with those we read or listen to as a family.
